  Raising Responsive Children
A Bible Study for Moms
Children. A woman's heart yearns for one, or two, or more to call her own. God places that longing in her soul and when He begins to fill it with soft, squishy little humans, a new dynamic surfaces—the fear, fretting, and faith-challenge that each child will turn out "right." Throughout our children's young years, we moms go into overdrive with our rescuing to prevent failure, or with our controlling to ensure success. We read every child-rearing manual on the market (both Christian and secular), and still struggle with the uncertainty, panic, and fear of failure that plagues the parenting process.
So what's a mother to do?
The answer is simple, yet challenging. We're to follow the example of the Ultimate Parent—the One who intricately knitted each human being in accordance with His plan and purpose, then deliberately placed each one in His created institution called a "family." And He wants those who preside over the family unit to take their parenting cues from Him. He daily raises us, His children, by His love, grace, mercy, and kind yet firm, guiding hand. And that is how He wants us to raise our children. The concept is simple, but here's the challenge: God's children must become intimately acquainted with Him as their Father. When we become aware of and responsive to how He parents us, then we'll understand how to parent our own children.
Raising Responsive Children is written for all moms--married moms, divorced moms, widowed moms, moms who have never married--whose kids are any age. Throughout the twelve lessons in Raising Responsive Children, you'll study God as a parent—your Parent. You'll examine your relationship with Him and compare it to His relationship with His Son; you'll make the connection between His precepts and parameters for you and how they impact your own parental responsibilities; and finally, you'll compare and contrast your parenting techniques with His, and where necessary, realign yours to meet His standard.
